New growth and previously colored hair do not always take color the same way. Your roots may process faster because of scalp warmth, while the lengths already contain older color. I consider both areas separately when planning color so the finished shade looks more even.
The amount, length, and placement of layers can change how much fullness your hair appears to have. Too much weight removed from certain areas can make the ends look lighter. I look at density, length, and natural movement before deciding where layers should sit.
